The Piston Broke has something for everyone

Look up the definition of ‘gastro-pub’ on the Internet and you’ll find that it’s a British term for a public house specializing in high-quality food a step above traditional pub house fare.
Look for a gastro-pub in Brantford and you’ll find The Piston Broke Pub and Grill.
Featuring a tantalizing selection of culinary creations by local chef Thomas Hall of White Rabbit Catering, The Piston Broke certainly goes beyond the norm with its incomparable blending of quality food, pub-style ambience, friendly service and good old-fashioned fun.
“Everything we do here is made from scratch. We start with our own stocks and go up from there,” Hall noted while taking a break from the busy kitchen. “We strive to keep the quality of food high and yet still priced affordably.”
The Piston Broke prides itself with offering a wide range of dishes to please all palates, yet each recipe shares a common thread. Infused with fresh base ingredients of garlic, olive oil, cracked black pepper and fresh herbs, the dishes are tweaked and refined into tasty offerings that include everything from pasta dishes, homemade burgers, satisfying sandwiches, savoury soups, fresh salads and pub-style offerings of Guinness Irish beef stew, steak or fish and chips, chicken souvlaki, barbecued ribs and barbecued meatloaf.
“The flavour of the dishes flows together by these core ingredients so all food has the same type of quality to it,” Hall explains. “All of the food is made by us with the same level of care and the same appreciation for fine food.”
Tempting appetizers such as Hall’s incredible Oysters Rockefeller, buffalo style chicken wings, Thai coconut shrimp and Basil Goat Cheese Calabrese are perfect for diners with smaller appetites, or those who simply want to relax after a busy workday, share some finger foods with friends and savour a refreshing drink.
To further enhance the menu selections The Piston Broke presents patrons with a mouthwatering line-up of daily lunch and dinner features. And with most features priced around $9, the value is phenomenal, notes Jacqui Huszczo, proprietor of the family owned and operated pub. “People will find they get very good value here and really good portion sizes. We’re attracting everybody from business professionals and students over the lunch hour, to families and couples for dinner and a wide range of ages for after dinner cocktails and entertainment.”
In addition to extremely affordable martini and Oysters Rockefeller specials every Wednesday, The Piston Broke is quickly becoming popular for its perfectly seasoned prime rib dinner specials on Saturday nights.
When they want a night out with friends people can enjoy a game of pool or darts in The Piston Broke games room, or they can watch the latest sporting event on any of the 10 wide screen televisions set up throughout the pub. Entertainment featuring live bands will soon be included on The Piston Broke’s roster, explains Huszczo.
“We have a huge patio with probably the best view in Brantford overlooking Harmony Square. In the coming months we want to include events like Battle of the Bands and live entertainment on the patio.”
When they want to unwind in a more private atmosphere with friends and family, people can book The Piston Broke’s games room, or the cocktail bar. “People like the fact that we have two separate bar areas and the ones who want a quieter night out usually spend time in the cocktail bar. It has a warmer, more soothing ambience,” Huszczo noted.
